A BASS
IS A BASS IS A BASS
- technical information -
| I play a Czechoslovakian ć size bass made sometime around WWII. Itís a factory bass with no signature, but weĽve been together since 1972 and it sounds great, big and warm. We get along fine. Itís set up with Dr. Thomastick orchestra strings. I have another instrument made by a Portuguese luthier, presently in David Gageís workshop in New York. Iíve been very satisfied using a David Gage trunk for flying around ever since he started making them, and every once in a while I go in for an upgrade. I employ the german style and I presently have three bows: An anonymous German Brazilwood Iíve owned ever since I was a hippy, a recently acquired bow by Guasti & Bottoni, and another something I use to chase the dogs with. When I need amplification I use a Realist run through a Fishman Bass Blender which I run straight into the mixer. When I need more amplification I have an SWR BASS350 (great customer service) pushing two 10î RCF speakers. When I need to be seriously loud, I use a roadie. For effects and noise in general, I have a DigitechBP8, a Cry Baby Wah Wah, and a Line 6 for loops. I make my own cables with Neutrek plugs. Iím being very subtle about this but Iím actually pushing very hard for sponsorships. There's not that much room in the endorsment world for accoustic bass players, but you never know... I do occasionally perform some numbers on electric bass, for which I have a 1975 Fender Precision which I bought new and ripped out the frets and generally butchered to suit my needs. I recently traded some furniture here at the house for a Music Man whatchamacallit because I felt that I may sometime need some frets for a recording or something. Iíve been sitting by the phone just waiting for that call. Well, I guess thatís it unless I go searching for labels on my stage clothesÖ.. |
